Outlier — Live ‘17
Art Direction for the live recorded EP from Bay Area modern black metal band, Outlier.
Following the release of their debut LP, Through A Set Of Rose Shaded Eyes, Bay Area modern black metal band, Outlier built a strong reputation for their exhilarating and unconventional live performances. In an effort to capture and share the visceral energy of being on stage, Outlier revealed their latest release, a collection of live recordings entitled Live ‘17. The EP includes their three singles Undesirable, Mecca, and Skinwalker recorded live at Nu-Tone Recording in Pittsburg, CA and Real Art in Tacoma, WA, respectively.
Working closely with Adrian Fonda, the band’s guitarist, it was made clear that Outlier was in need of cover art for the project that properly represented the fervor of these new recordings while still remaining in touch with the grim nature of their sound. The final design displays an original blackened grayscale photograph peering within a window where lights can be seen dancing across the glass below the band’s logo. The dancing lights mimic the movement of a live production captured in time, and the metaphoric voyeurs each of us become by peering through the glass is justified by Outlier’s gift of this lens to witness a performance of theirs many of us may never experience otherwise.
