Website Design for Eastern Texas-based figural painter and visual artist, Natalie Wadlington.

Natalie Wadlington (born 1992 in Modesto, CA) is a figurative painter and visual artist currently based in East Texas. She received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and was a resident fellow at Ox-Bow School of Art. Her work has been featured in publications such as New American Paintings and has been shown in exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Her practice consists of story-telling through figural paintings in which metaphorical communication is used to portray larger, archetypal narratives of love, conflict, and misunderstanding, specifically in our relationships to animals.

The artist was in need of a website that professionally displayed and archived her artwork, as well as her curriculum vitae and other forms of information. The design of Natalie Wadlington’s website accomplishes these goals by utilizing simplicity and separating the site into two single pages for her “Work” and “Info”. The “Work” page employs a gridded framework, displaying paintings on a white background (replicating a gallery wall) and organizes them vertically on the page by year, beginning with the newest works at the top. Titles of works are shown beneath their images — a subtle gesture from the artist — and user clicks will grant a lightbox view, both enlarging paintings of interest and displaying their medium, size, and year of completion. The “Info” page cleanly displays a brief statement from the artist alongside a selective version of their curriculum vitae and links to potential areas of interest, highlighting on hover by the purest hue of red (the color identified by the artist as their favorite).
